Basics of Report writting

RESEARCH REPORT

  • A research report is a major component of a research study, without that research work remains incomplete.

  • purpose of research is not well served unless the findings are made know to others.

Components of a research project

  • Title, author's name, and affiliations.

  • Abstract

  • Introduction

  • Materials and methods

  • Results

  • Discussion

  • Conclusion

  • Bibliography

  • Appendix

1.TITLE

  • The title should be clearly and concisely capture the essence of your study. (not more than 12 words).

  • This is not easy to drop any words that are not useful. ( e.g: " a study of", don't include any abbreviations in the title.

  • The title is centered and placed in the top half of the page.

  • It should be typed in uppercase and lowercase, with the first letter of the main words capitalized.

2.ABSTRACT

  • Abstract-A brief summary of the main element of the report. it should describe:

  • The question that was addressed.

  • Experimental method.

  • An overview of main findings.

  • Conclusion and implications of the study.

  • The sample used.

3.INTRODUCTION

  • The introduction indicates the problem that is to be addressed and reviews the relevant literature in the topic area.

  • In the closing section of the introduction, the purpose of the study is presented and a specific hypothesis is stated.

  • Give the study objectives at the end of the introduction.

4. MATERIALS AND METHOD

  • Methodology- describes exactly how your study was conducted.

  • The methodology may be divided into a number of subsections:

1. Materials/subjects

2. Sampling: Type of sampling method

3. study design: provides details of research design, subject, No of groups, comparison, etc.

 

5. RESULTS

  • In the results section- describe your data and the results of the descriptive and interferential techniques used.

  • Should be brief and up to point.

  • Should be well structured with tables, graphs, and diagrams appropriately.

  • When reporting the results of statistical analyses you need to include: The name of the test, value obtained, the DF and P-value.

9. semi-log plots

 

7. DISCUSSION


1. You should attempt to integrate or pull together all various sections of your report. This involves:

2.A summary of the main findings of the study.

3. Followed by interpretation of these results in light of your literature review presented in the introduction.

4.compare your results with previous research and suggest reasons for any differences.

5. Limitations or weaknesses of your study should be identified and discussed.

 

8. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION: 

Briefly summarize the main findings and new knowledge gain. It may be helpful to put the summary of the conclusion in bullet-pointed format.

 

9. BIBLIOGRAPHY( REFERENCE): 

Provides details of the literature that was referred to in reports. it adds credibility to your work.

 

10. APPENDIX: 

Consist of the approval letter, Information sheet, consent form, and questionnaire.
